The Audix F90, for its quality range, is a very tough mic to beat. Sure, it costs a little more than most competing miniature mics but it also performs quite a bit better. The question is this: Do you want a portable, miniature clip-on mic? If so, this is one that will perform all the tasks you ask of it. If you want to go a bit more professional, you can expect to pay more money and even then you may not end up with a mic of this quality.

Audix F90 Microphone Review

Anybody who has tried to record an album or a band rehearsal knows that the drums are one of the most difficult and annoying aspects to capture. One minute you're failing to capture the percussion and the next minute it's bleeding into the audio of other instruments. The Audix F90, though, attempts to end these annoying occurrences once and for all.

You'll notice right away that the Audix F90 is miniature and comes with a handy and durable clip. This makes it easy to place it in tight spaces; any drummer knows that tight spaces are easy to come by with even the most modest sets. You can place it in under cymbals, between heads, and nearly anywhere else you can imagine.

But does it pick up sound properly? Luckily, the answer is yes. The F90, thanks to its 50Hz-18Khz impedence, allows it to capture audio evenly and faithfully. The mount is also very trusty and dependable, ensuring that the mic won't fall off in the middle of a recording session. The phantom power adapter is another nice touch; it allows band mates to keep recording in the middle of a particularly inspired jam. And in case you think that the mic only works well with drums, keep in mind that it can easily handle complex guitar fretwork as well as most brass. It may cost a bit more than most mics its size, but it also outperforms the vast majority of them.

This device eats the batteries very fast and besides this con, most of the people find it bulky & heavy. This makes moving around with it to be hectic. In addition to this, there are other instances where the screen foams and renders the device ineffective. It is also very expensive and this makes it one of the main reasons why the product is becoming more unpopular.

Sony UWPV1/30320 Ch 30/33 UWP-C1 Wireless Package

This is one great wireless package.

The enhancements made on the system include an all metallic chassis that is rugged and a transmitter that has an input that is meant for switchable Mic or Line. Moreover, this package also has a synthesizing tuning feature that is incorporated by the PLL system, reception that has diversity of space and all the other features that were found in the UWP-C hence making it such a popular product.

All the signals that are coming in and any potential RF interference are minimized and only the strongest signals are consequently selected. This is because this system has a relatively excellent feature that gives the receiver (which can also be mounted on a camera) the diversity of space which stabilizes reception. The device also offers great clarity in sound due to its versatility.

This system has antennas that have been designed in such a manner that they swivel around which as a result strengthens the reception. In addition to this, there is the provision of an output for stereo mini-jack that is also incorporated with a monitor for controlling the volume. Cables for mini, stereo and XLR are all provided for. All information regarding the channel and frequency, RF input level, the operating time accumulated, the battery life and audio output status are all displayed on a LCD screen. Both the receiver and the body feature UHF frequencies that are 188 in number and they normally operate for not more than 8 hours. The batteries that they use for operating are two alkaline AA sizes. The price that this product is sold at in most online stores is $449.95.

Sennheiser Is Sexy with No Cables On

You could get wild with this new-found freedom. Great wireless system, reliable and ready for the stage.

Tired of being tethered to the stage? Go wireless! The inherent risks with going wireless may leave you weary (namely, interference). UHF systems are very reliable and pretty standard. We use them for cell phones, TV and a whole host of other communication devices, but there’s always room for a Sennheiser microphone.

In the Sennheiser EW 165 G2 package, you get a handheld transmitter microphone and the rack mount receiver (half space). You’ll also get a microphone clip; most wireless handhelds will not fit into a wired mic’s clip because the housing is much larger.

Among the cooler features of the system is Autoscan, an automatic frequency sweep. Through this function, the unit evaluates its environment and determines what frequencies will transmit the best.

The handheld microphone is designed with practical circumstances in mind. For starters, its power and mute button are locked and protected by a rotating cup on the bottom of the handheld. The advantage of this, as opposed to others like Shure’s two button locking system on the Beta 58 wireless, is the buttons are physically protected.

The EW 165 G2 is actually an e865 microphone-gone-wireless. It’s a super-cardioid pattern; such a tight pattern allows you to wonder around stage or in front of the mains with less risk of noise bleed or feedback. The frequency response is from 40Hz to 20kHz. The e865 capsule was a great choice for the wireless system (if nothing else) because of its frequency curve. There is a nice roll off at the bottom end and a bump in the top end for additional brightness. So if there is any interference in the transmission, it’ll probably be obfuscated by the bright clarity of the microphone’s texture.

My opportunity to work with the EW165G2 was at a packed shore-front club. The lead singer of a seven-piece band used it while prowling around stage and even into the audience. The best advantage of this particular mic is you can safely wander into other players’ monitor mixes or near their loud instruments and there is minimal interference.

A Few Steps Up From the Mic Classic

For about $60 more than the SM58, the Beta 58A was totally worth it for me. Its features are significant enough to make a difference in the world of professional stages.

For the past five years, I’ve faithfully used and abused the Shure Beta 58A on stage. It’s delivered thousands of performances in salt air, smoky bars, and other stages closely resembling the 2nd Circle of Hell. At weddings, I can hand the mic to priests and family members with confidence, knowing the Beta 58 is worthy of holy hands and drunken bridesmaids who get all too friendly with its phallic shape.

Actually, one of the distinguishing factors between the SM58 and the Beta 58 is the frame and isolation. "The Beta has an [improved] shock mount,” according to Shure Incorporated’s Director of Applications Engineer Michael Pettersen. “If you were to slide your hand down an SM58 and a Beta 58, you'd notice less noise with the Beta." That’s good news for the bridesmaid. And that’s not the only structural difference.

"[The Beta 58] has a ball grill that is hardened. If both mics are dropped head-first onto a wooden floor, the Beta 58 grill will not dent or dent far less than the

SM58 grill,” said Pettersen.

Eventually the nature of stage performance will test the durability of your gear. It’s common for someone to trip in the labyrinth of cords on stage, taking down mic stands and the mics along with it. Dynamic mics are known for their ability to take a good ass-whooping, but the Beta 58A, believe it or not, can endure much more.

Then there are the technical component differences. “The Beta 58 has a neodymium magnet; the SM58 has an alnico magnet. The Shure Beta 58A magnet has a stronger field and thus provides a hotter output signal than the SM58,” said Pettersen.

The difference in magnetic strength is easily noticed when the two mics are placed in adjacent channels on a board. Less gain is needed to bring the Beta 58 up to working volume.

The polar pickup pattern on the Beta 58A is supercardioid, giving it wider pickup than the SM58, and the frequency response is a little larger as well, from 50Hz to 16kHz.

My decision to make the Beta 58A my permanent vocal mic was finally swayed for its proximity dynamic. I don’t like soundmen messing with my gains and volumes, so I control my own dynamics during performance by backing off or “getting friendly” with the mic (hey it’s my mic). The Shure Beta 58A accommodates this by rolling off the lower frequencies as the sound source gets further from the mic. This adds more dynamic to the pickup, especially since these vocal parts are mostly harmonies. When I want a dominant sound with lots of presence, my lips are nearly touching the grill. At this distance, there is a 10dB hump around 200Hz. As a bass/tenor range, the Beta 58 delivers the perfect tone for my voice.

My mic selection is congruous with Pettersen and Shure’s philosophy: select the mic that’s right for you, regardless of type, brand or price. The Shure Beta 58A is my toothbrush, and I feel most comfortable when it is in front of me.

It’s really cool that these microphones can be used together. This allows you to balance sound more professionally in many situations. And the fact that both have separate volume controls makes that professional level even easier to achieve. I also love the wireless aspect of this mic system. It’s so nice not having to trip over wires!

The sound you get when using this Pyle dual uhf wireless microphone system isn’t perfect. It may be good for addressing groups in a speaking setting but it’s not nearly as good when it comes to performing songs. The sound can get a little muddy. More clarity would’ve been nice to hear.

I think this microphone system is good for amateur performers. If you want to have a more professional sound then you’ll probably have to put out a little more money for a higher end mic.

Pyle Dual Uhf Wireless Microphone System: Made For Addressing Groups

This is not a mic suited for professional musicians. It’s a much better choice for a public speaker.

The Pyle dual uhf wireless microphone system is a great setup that you can use in so many different situations. I like the versatility and the flexibility of this system the most. It even has two microphones that work together seamlessly to create great sound no matter where you happen to be.

I could see people using this at church. A reverend or preacher could use these to really get his or her message out to an audience. These would also be perfect mics for someone playing piano accompaniment to vocals. Both would be able to have a mic hooked up for the best balanced sound. Plus, with separate volume controls on each mic, you can really control the balance of sound to perfection. You can keep the instruments balanced in a way that will not overwhelm the vocals or detract from the song.

These Pyle dual uhf wireless microphones are even great when you’re planning a reunion or some other event with a lot of people. The sound is loud and clear, and the price is certainly right. I love the affordability of the Pyle dual uhf wireless microphone system. This isn’t an expensive system but it still performs well. These aren’t the microphones you’d want to take with you into the recording studio, but for hooking up to your average loudspeaker these are perfect. They will boost your voice and everyone will be able to hear what you’re saying clearly.

It’s also ultra convenient that these mics are wireless. You can walk and talk or dance and sing without having to get all tangled up in wires or cables. That’s a definite bonus.

I like these Pyle microphones. They’re not made for true professionals but they’re great for amateur performers or those addressing large groups of people.
