If your going wireless, I would say the Beta. The reveiw makes it clear that its more responsive then the SM. But your daughter is a Female vocalists and with female vocalists ive found that the Beta 87 does wonders. Although that may be out of your budget range. Never hurts to look into it. Definatly do Beta and if you can Beta 87.

A tip for using the shockmount: if you turn the mic upside-down the weight of the thing actually tightens the screw instead of loosening it. And yeah, the pop filters suck - one of mine was bent when I received it and when I bent it back into shape it snapped.

I agree with most of the stuff you said here but I didn't think that the mic was great for vocals, definitely more of an instrumental mic. Don't you think an SM58 would be better for vocals then the SM57?

the bluebird definitely provides rich recordings but I find vocal recordings sometimes too base heavy, and in need of EQ. I would compare it to the sound of AM radio talk shows.

I am thinking of buying a wireless mic for my daughter as a gift. She is a lead singer from Nashville. I have very little knowledge in this area but was told the Shure SM58 is a good one. Should I look at Beta? I don't know the difference. She performs in singer/songwriter venues, large outdoor concerts and everything in between. Also, I was told to look into the Airline Synth Wireless systme and use it with the SM58. Does this make sense, and can you give me a suggestion as to what sytem or mic to look at. (Budget is a concern)..........Thanks, Gary
