Manufacturer

In June of 1948, Schalltechnik was founded by Dr. Karl Schoeps with the help of Dr. Wilhelm Küsters.  Both graduated in Communications Engineering at the University of Karlsruhe.  Dr. Schoeps was the director and business manager of the company, and Dr. Küsters was responsible for technology and manufacturing. As Dr. Küsters’ health deteriorated, he began to look for someone to assist him. He found Mr. Jörg Wuttke, who joined the company in 1970.  Jörg had originally hoped to gather some experience and obtain a doctorate afterwards, but at the end of 1971, Dr. Küsters died, and Jörg Wuttke took on his job. In 1978 the GmbH was founded, now known as Schoeps Mikrofone, after Wuttke’s team launched the well-known Colette series of mics in 1973.   In 1980, the son of Dr. Schoeps, Ulrich Schoeps, joined his father's company.  At first, Ulrich worked in the administrative and legal sector. In 1986, he became second director, with his father remaining first director. At the end of 1993, Dr. Schoeps died, and his son became head of the firm.

He remains at the company his father established, dedicated to designing and producing neutral, accurate microphones for film and music recording.  The Colette series of microphones is still popular today, owing its longevity to an innovative, interchangeable module system that has, by far, the largest selection of options on the market.  By design, nearly every capsule can be used with any of their amplifiers, allowing for hundreds of possibilities.

Schoeps manufactures modular and compact microphones, hand-held vocalist microphones, surround and stereo microphones, shotgun microphones, headset microphones and the PolarFlex microphone system in addition to a preamplifier and microphone accessories.

Schoeps microphones can be found at www.proaudiosolutions.com, www.soniccircus.com, and at www.bhphotovideo.com.  Serious gear has serious prices, and so is the case here!
