Shotgun Microphones

The Shotgun Microphone garners its namesake from the long slender barrel that characterizes its form. A highly directional (unidirectional) microphone, the Shotgun Mic is well served as an outdoor mic. Its long body allows it to pick up sounds from a considerable distance while rejecting unwanted sounds that are not directly in its pick-up path.  For this reason, Shutgun microphones are commonly used on movie sets for recording dialogue in order to keep the microphone far enough away from the subject to be out of the visible frame. They are also great for field and nature recording.
