Microphones make a studio. Any good studio will have the right mic for the job at hand. This means stocking up on condensers, dynamics, and maybe a ribbon. Unlike on stage, you can micro-manage the qualities and performance of a mic in a controlled environment. You should choose the right mic(s), find the right placement, and adjust them for the most accurate capture possible.
Some studio essentials are the Shure SM57 and SM58 a large-diaphragm condenser by Nuemann or GT, a matched pair of condensers for stereo recording, a drum kit package, and some low-frequency mics like the Audix D-Series. Try any mic or combination of mics until you are happy with the sound.
