Founded by Dr. Rudolf Goinke and Ernst Pless in Austria over sixty years ago, AKG Acoustics has developed a reputation for excellence, high quality and ongoing innovation that has continued past the new millennium. Just a few short years after their founding, AKG had made a revolutionary breakthrough in the development of the C12, the world’s first remote-controlled multi-pattern capacitor microphone, which the BBC and the first two way carotid microphone, the D202. By the 1990s, AKG developed a wireless microphone used on the world tours of Rod Stewart, Peter Gabriel and Simply Red. Towards the end of the decade, AKG developed the world’s smallest dual-diaphragm system specifically designed for the theater, TV and film the CK77, as well as several other wireless microphone systems used for the stage and for concerts. And their performance series has been specifically designed to be an affordable microphone for karaoke, home recording and the performing musician.

Along with their reputation for quality and innovation, AKG Acoustics has rapidly expanded their distribution across the world, becoming one of the world’s leading manufacturers of high quality microphones, headphones and wireless equipment – many of which can essentially be considered multipurpose. With that in mind, it shouldn’t be a surprise that AKG microphones are used in concert halls, opera halls, recording studios, TV and film studios, and stages across the world.

Although AKG has worldwide distribution, individual buyers across the world currently cannot purchase their microphones through their website. However, AKG does link the individual consumer to information on contacting authorized dealers in the consumer’s local area. In the United States alone, there are about 100 authorized dealers located in or near many of the country’s metropolitan areas.

AKG offers a wide selection of microphones, from recording to stage, installed, wireless, and more.  With AKG’s recording line of microphones you’ll find recording and broadcast mics, the ULS series, the AKG Blue Line, and Perception microphones.  Stage microphones include handheld mics, instrument mics, clip-on models, head-worn microphones, and lavaliers.  AKG’s installed microphone line includes gooseneck mics, hanging mics, mics for paging, boundary layer and shotgun microphones, in addition to the CS 2 Conference System and AS 8 TC automixer.  The company’s wireless line of microphones includes wireless microphone systems as well as an in-ear monitoring system.

The live and installed AKG Wireless C 5 and D 5 Vocal Microphones are two new additions to the company’s mic selection.  These new C 5 and D 5 are wireless versions of already existing models.  They come with two interchangeable microphone heads (the C 5 WL 1 condenser vocal stage microphone and D 5 WL 1 dynamic vocal stage mic) compatible with the WMS 4000 wireless system’s HT 4000 handheld unit.  Both microphones are designed with an integrated shock absorber system and a spring steel elastic wire mesh cap that’s dent-resistant.  Laminate Varimotion diaphragm technology has been incorporated into the D 5 to create a balanced frequency response.
