Audio-Technica AT2041SP Cardioid Condenser Studio Microphone Package
Two quality condensers for one low priceFor a very reasonable price, Audio-Technica has packaged two great condensers together. With a Side-address cardioid condenser and small-diaphragm cardioid condenser, there are several possibilities.
A bit on the bright side, the highs of the AT2020 are a little brittle and the overall sound lacks some warmth. The AT2021 also lacks in bass response with a frequency range starting at 30Hz.

The Verdict
These mics won’t blow you away, but for the price, they are pretty good. Superb sounding microphones cost a bundle, but this package is great for project studios. The sound is a lot better than the price would suggest.

Audio-Technica’s Condenser Package Brings Versatility into the Studio
These mics won’t blow you away, but for the price, they are pretty good.
It’s great to find cheap microphones that don’t sound like toys and the Audio-Technica AT2020 & AT2021 Microphone Package is a great deal. The AT2020 side-address cardioid condenser is great for both vocals and a wide range of instruments while the AT2021 small-diaphragm cardioid condenser is a good choice for overheads and string instruments. The AT2020 has an extended frequency response that provides lovely bright highs and is rugged enough to handle high SPL levels. The AT2021 has excellent transient response making it great for acoustic guitars. With both of these microphones for less than $300, you might want to pick up a few of them. They won’t replicate the sound of a U47, but they will do just fine in a project and commercial studios for engineers on a budget.
