Among a sea of consumer electronics, Sony has a line of microphones.  Many of their mics are geared towards use with camcorders and video, and they also make lavalier (clip-ons for interviews), wireless and vocal microphones.

Sony has released some of the best-selling electronics in the world.  When resources are as enormous as they are at Sony, any product they put out will have a certain degree of quality.  So, although they don’t specialize in microphone gear, they’re still an accredited research and development company for consumer-grade microphones.

Sony’s camcorder mics are made to clip right onto Sony-model camcorders.  Mics like the ECM-Z37C can clip onto over 20 models, and instantly expands the camcorder’s frequency response and pickup pattern for cleaner, more dynamic audio.  For recording live music, they have several digital and stereo mics.  They are small and usually have a male eighth-inch jack for easy compatibility.  If sitting down for an interview, Sony offers a great line of lavalier microphones.  To compliment any mic being used with a camcorder, Sony also make wireless systems.  That way, the microphone isn’t confined to the camcorder, allowing you to walk around without shifting audio environments.

I would not use a Sony vocal microphone on stage or in a studio, but they may be the perfect “value solution” for small businesses, churches, or very casual use.  Camcorder mics start around $120.  The lavaliers are very inexpensive, starting at around $15.  Wireless systems start at $150.  All Sony microphones are available at Amazon.com, BHPhotoVideo.com, and SonyStyle.com.
